East Village, Downtown San Diego

East Village Condos, Lofts and Penthouses have been a popular choice the last couple of years among Downtown San Diego Real Estate buyers. Recently, the East Village has been one of the neighborhoods with the most sales in Downtown San Diego.

The East Village, also called the Ballpark District, contains of 130 city blocks from 7th Avenue to 18th Street. This makes the East Village the largest neighborhood out of the seven in Downtown San Diego. It is also the fastest growing neighborhood. The East Village is located east of the Gaslamp and southeast of the Core District and Cortez Hill. Between the years of 2004 and 2009 most Downtown San Diego Condo complexes such as The Mark, The Legend, Icon, M2i, Park Terrace, Metrome, and Alta were completed. These projects brought the neighborhood great investment opportunities.

Vacant lots and warehouses used to be home to the East Village. In the 1990s, East Village became more of a social service and artist destination. In the first decade of 2000, developers saw the opportunity to build condominiums after the announcement that a new baseball stadium would be completed for the San Diego Padres in 2004. This is when the new era of the East Village began.

As you walk around the neighborhood you will find a mixture of both work and play. Petco Park, home to the San Diego Padres, is one of the attractions you will find in the East Village along with the new Downtown San Diego Library. Additionally, the Jefferson Law School, the new and improved Albertson’s shopping center, and the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge giving residents and visitors easy access to the waterfront in the Marina neighborhood. The East Village has a trendy and hip feel where you can find a mix of contemporary and traditional high-rise, mid-rise, and low rise buildings along with loft retail and office space, art galleries, restaurants, and specialty shops.

Even though the East Village is the youngest neighborhood in Downtown San Diego, it is quickly working its way toward becoming a more developed area where small proprietary shops, restaurants, and bars are opened often. Buyers who purchase in the East Village see the vision of a growing neighborhood with great investment potential.
